20-Twenty POLITICS
Dhoni’s boys in blue are the world champions in the new cricket format of 20-Twenty cricket. Presently Indian premier league (IPL) Count down has already been started. A big game of money in this is also running parallel to it. But here we are not concerned with those talks. Rather we are concerned with a different kind of 20-Twenty match i.e. the 20-Twenty match which was going on between congress (I) and BJD at Laxmipur constituency. The results have supported congress (I). BHD has lost the match by 484 votes. It has given a jerk to the political tycoons of BJD also.
The geologists have proposed the Orissa government to monitor the remote naxal-infested areas of the State through Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS).
The GPS and the GIS are used in various fields that range from exploration of minerals, town planning as well as defence purposes throughout the world including India. Geologist Sunil Ratha has stated that GPS system which uses signals from medium orbit satellites can pinpoint location, speed and direction of movement of any object anywhere. Orissa police can use GPS extensively to aid mapping and target tracking naxals throughout the year.
The naxals could be easily tracked down as they use electronic equipments like mobile phones as well as they have ample amount of metal in the forms of weapons. Geologists are able to track mineral deposits through satellite imaging. The same satellite imaging through GPS would be able to track potential naxal targets making movements in forests before they turn hostile.
Orissa is yet to have a proper mapping of its forests through Geographical Information System (GIS) which is rapidly emerging as a powerful tool.
